On classic Factions servers a clan's strength is measured by a "power" resource: it is spent on holding land and drops when members die, and losing it opens the territory to enemy conquest. So a base is protected exactly as long as the clan is strong.
Alliances and diplomacy
Clans form alliances, declare wars and divide spheres of influence. On developed servers real politics emerges — with negotiations, betrayals and coalitions of several groups.
