A job on a server is a profession system in which a player gets in-game currency for certain actions. Having chosen a specialisation, you earn automatically: a miner gets income for mining ore, a farmer for growing crops, a hunter for defeating mobs, a builder for placing blocks. Regular play thus becomes a source of income, and the player gets a clear goal — to develop the chosen profession and raise their earnings.
Most often professions on servers are implemented with the Jobs Reborn plugin on the Spigot, Paper and Purpur cores. It lets you choose one or several jobs, pays for actions and tracks a profession's level: the higher the level, the greater the income and the more bonuses become available. It is a server mechanic — in vanilla Minecraft there are no jobs. Professions rarely exist on their own: they are almost always part of the server economy, where earned money is spent in shops, at the auction and in trade with other players.
