What "a server without a launcher" means

A launcher is a separate program for starting Minecraft. Some servers require their own launcher to deliver a mod build, updates or their own authorisation system. A server without a launcher needs none of that: you can connect straight from the normal game client by adding the address to your server list. These are servers running on plugins (not on heavy modpacks), so no extra software is needed to join.

The absence of a launcher means convenience and transparency for the player. You do not need to download a third-party program, give it access to your system or enter data into an unfamiliar app. The official Minecraft client of the right version is enough. Such servers are usually built on the Spigot, Paper and Purpur cores: all the content — modes, economy, protection — runs on the server side and needs no installation on your computer.

How to connect to a server without a launcher

The process is the same for any server without a launcher. In Java Edition: open the game, choose "Multiplayer", click "Add Server", enter the IP address and port from the project's card, save and connect. In Bedrock Edition: the "Servers" tab, "Add Server", enter the address and port. The client version is worth checking against the particular server's requirements — it is stated on the card.

Why servers choose to work without a launcher
