Vanilla Minecraft Servers
BestGames lists 119 vanilla projects for Minecraft — servers where gameplay is built on the original game mechanics without altering core systems. Vanilla does not mean zero plugins: most servers add a minimal utility layer (land claims, grief protection, player shops) without touching crafting mechanics, mob behavior, or world generation.
Vanilla servers sit between two extremes. On one side are modded servers (Forge/Fabric modpacks with hundreds of mods) that overhaul recipes, add new dimensions, and completely rewrite progression. On the other side is anarchy, where there are no protections and no rules. Vanilla occupies the space in between: Mojang's original mechanics, paired with land protection and community rules. The SMP (small multiplayer) format — a small, close-knit server without competitions — is the purest expression of this: cooperative building and survival valued over conquest.
